Resources for Parents

At St Giles’, we believe that continued learning at home plays an important part in a child’s education.  It consolidates and extends classroom learning and supports children to develop self-discipline and independence.  Having listened to parents’ feedback, we appreciate that with busy lives, it can be a challenge to find sufficient time to complete some formal homework tasks.  Having considered this, our homework requirements now focus on consolidation of basic learning, essentially reading, spelling, number bonds up to 100 and times tables

Please see further guidance below:

At times, teachers may set projects to supplement the termly theme.  These activities may be research or art based and you will have a number of weeks to complete them with your children.  Unlike the reading, spelling and number work, there is not an expectation that these projects are completed.  They are put in place for those parents who enjoy supporting the children with these sorts of activities.

Encouraging Reading at Home

Reading with your child can mean sharing books, stories, rhymes, or any other writing.
