Plans, Topics and Themes
Our curriculum is currently organised into topics/themes on a 2 year rolling programme which means that children in Year 1 & 2 , Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6 all follow the same topics but these will be adapted to meet the needs of the children within each class. Early Years follows their own Long Term Plan . These topics are mapped out in a Long Term Plan for each phase of school and can be found below. All of our topics and themes have been reviewed and new Long Term Maps are being changed. Below are the current maps we are working from but these are being adapted as we work through the year.
We follow the National Curriculum End of Year expectations for English and the Shropshire Planning Overviews (see below) for mathematics lessons. In Reception and Key Stage 1, children are taught phonics using the National Letters and Sounds materials. The reading scheme we follow is Oxford Reading Tree but this is supplemented widely to ensure the children develop a love and enjoyment of books. In Key Stage 2, Rigby Navigator schemes are used for our daily guided reading sessions.
For each subject taught, we have long term plan, mentioned earlier, which map out the aspects to be covered each year. In this way, we can ensure that our children receive their full entitlement to the curriculum without repeating any areas of study unnecessarily.
There are separate plans for the subject of Computing, formerly known as ICT, for all year groups and links to other areas of the curriculum.
